Gulf Savannah "Wanderer"

The Gulf Savannah "Wanderer" is a 9 day all overland accommodated safari through North Queensland's Gulf Country and lower Cape York - a land of real outback characters, bush pubs, wedge-tailed eagles and wallaroos, hot springs and cool rivers, and a rich history of Aboriginal culture, explorers and pioneers.

Day 1 (LD): The "Savannahlander" train, Tyrconnell Historic Gold Mine and Chillagoe limestone caves tour. Chillagoe overnight.

Day 2 (BLD): Remote cattle country on the Burke Development Road. The mighty Mitchell River which boasts Australian’s second highest flow rate. Dorunda Hunting & Fishing Lodge overnight

Day 3 (BLD): Normanton’s famous landmarks including “Gulflander’s” home. Cruise or fish the Norman River (optional). Gulf of Carpentaria sunset cruise. Karumba overnight.

Day 4 (BLD): Burke & Wills Camp #119, the "Plains of Promise", Leichhardt Falls and Burketown. Adel’s Grove for two nights in permanent tent safari accommodation.

Day 5 (BLD): Riversleigh Fossil Fields (World Heritage listed) and fabulous Lawn Hill National Park. Return to Adel’s Grove.

Day 6 (BLD): Gregory and remote Burke & Wills Roadhouse. Normanton overnight.

Day 7 (BLD): The historic “Gulflander” train across the Norman River to Critters Camp. Black Bull Siding then Croydon’s Historic Precinct. Georgetown then Cobbold Gorge to stay overnight.

Day 8 (BLD): Cobbold Gorge cruise. Forsayth and on to the famous Undara Lava Tubes. Overnight accommodation in antique railway carriages.

Day 9 (BL): Guided tour of the lava tubes, said to be the largest in the world. Mt Hypipamee (The Crater) and Curtain Fig Tree National Parks. Safari terminates in Cairns.
